How To Choose A Sleeping Pillow

The right pillow can make the difference between "ahhh" when you lay your head down and "ouch" when you wake up.

Here are a few (general) guidelines that may be helpful to you when choosing the perfect sleeping pillow. The goal of a perfect sleeping pillow is to provide comfortable support while relieving stress on the neck. So we recommend:

* A Soft Pillow if you sleep on your stomach.
* A Medium Pillow if you sleep on your back.
* A Firm Pillow if you sleep on your side, unless you are petite. If you are petite or have small shoulders, a medium may be a better choice.

* 750 fill down has larger down clusters then 650 fill, resulting in a slightly firmer, more resilient (or bouncy) feel
* 650 fill down has smaller down clusters than 750 fill, resulting in a slightly softer pillow.

Down pillows will "break in" with use, becoming softer and flatter with time, depending on many factors beyond our control, such as humidity, how the pillow is used, etc. This is why we offer our Perfect Fill™ Service.

All Plumeria Bay® down pillows come with our Perfect Fill™ service. If you decide you would like to add more down, or maybe take some out, anytime within the 1st year of your purchase, just send it to us (see our warranty page for shipping address) and we'll add or remove as much down as you'd like. We charge only for any down added, and return shipping. Any down removed will be returned to you in a separate cotton storage bag.

Eiderdown, or eider down, comes from the Eider Duck, a large migratory sea duck. Eiderdown is exceptionally soft and has insulating properties superior to any other down. The eiderdown used in our luxury duvets and pillows comes from Iceland, in special sanctuaries where the eider ducks can safely rest and nest during their annual migration.

The female eider duck plucks down from her breast to line her nest and cover the eggs. Once the nest is abandoned, the eiderdown is gathered. The birds are not disturbed, and are actually attracted to these safe areas by the farmers who supply food and protect these birds from poachers. This relationship between wild eider duck and farmer has existed for generations and helps insure the continued existence of a beautiful rare bird and a valuable resource.

Eiderdown, when used in comforters (or duvets) and pillows, tests at approximately 700 fill power. Yet, due to the "hooks" in the eiderdown cluster it has a phenomenal density and cling and insulates at an amazing 850 to 900 fill power. If you were to hold a small amount of eiderdown in the palm of your hand you would feel no weight, just a soft growing warmth.

Eiderdown is extremely rare, and is another reason (aside from being the softest, lightest and warmest down in the world) why our eiderdown comforters are so prized, and so expensive. Nevertheless, if you can afford this luxury, you can rest assured that our eiderdown comforters and pillows are the finest available.
